Since July 2015, I have been training the professional corps of this wonderful group of performers which is one of India's most renowned contemporary dance companies. My classes include elements of Graham, Horton, and Ballet techniques and are even attended by the founder and Artistic Director, Mayuri Upadhya.
Nritarutya means "dancing tree" in the local language, Kannada, and is co-directed by Mayuri and her sister, Madhuri. This company is famous for their elaborate sets, large casts of performers, versatile styles, and depiction of Indian history and culture. The Upadhya sisters are also famous for having recently jointly won the Uday Shankar Award for Choreography.
Mayuri is famous also for recently having choreographed the "Make in India" cultural performance which was performed at the inaugural session of Hannover Messe, the world's largest industrial fair, in Germany. Mayuri won international acclaim for this show which was attended my Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and German Chancellor Angela Merkel (link below).
Nritarutya performed for over 10,000 people in Bangalore in September 2015 as part of the Ganesha Chaturthi Festival.
Left Foot Right Danceworks
I am also working for Left Foot Right Danceworks, a budding professional dance company in Bangalore, India. I teach them jazz dance technique, choreograph original works in various forms of jazz and contemporary dance, and perform with them as well.
